THE MISSION

The Inspiration Behind John's Crossing

John Albino

In 2014, my daughter decided to come home and live with me after years of residing at her mother's house. For many reasons, it was time for her to come back home after living apart for quite some time. When she did, she brought her young cat with her. She found the animal picking through garbage and adopted her. Once in my house, I also became very attached to the cat, who also got along well with my dog, Tiger. One weekend, my daughter decided that she was going to visit her mother, and was going to bring the cat with her. She told me that there was a cat at her mother's house that was very ill. I had cautioned not to bring her young cat to the house, because she may be susceptible to the other cat's illness. Unfortunately she did not heed that warning and brought the cat to her mother's house for the weekend. About two weeks later, my daughter's cat started to lose her appetite, became sluggish and began to lose weight. When it seemed like the cat had lost about 30 to 40% of her body weight, I took her to the veterinarian. The vet asked if the cat was around other sick cats, and my daughter replied, yes. The vet gave us some medicine, but did not promise much hope. Within a week, my daughter's cat became glassy-eyed, and lost the ability to stand on her own. She wasn't eating, nor did she want to take her medicine. At that point, both of us became very upset. One morning, I noticed that the cat could barely even sit up. My daughter got upset, and we started arguing. I had told her that this was the result of her completely ignoring my sound advice, and exposing her cat to a sick animal. She tried to convince herself that was not the reason why the cat became ill. To look at my daughter's cat, you could tell that she probably only had about another week to live, if that much. My daughter went upstairs. I was sitting at the kitchen table. At this point the cat's eyes were glassy and yellow, and she kept sliding and falling down to the kitchen floor. At this point, I started getting really upset as I had become very attached to the animal as well. I'm not embarrassed to say that I got very upset and started crying. I didn't know what to do, I had always ask God just to give me strength to get through things. This time, I asked him to spare the cat's life. I made a promise that if he spared her life, I would glorify him with music. I would dedicate my life writing music for him. I shouted it out at my kitchen table. About two minutes later, the cat got up, walked over to her bowl and started eating. I screamed upstairs to my daughter to come downstairs to see that a miracle had happened. From that point on, she was taking her medicine, and eating, and today, she's a healthy cat. I have never really seen a miracle. But I knew that day that was a genuine miracle. So, I kept my promise to God.

That was my inspiration for the music, and the band, John's Crossing.

Glorifying Him with music, and spreading the Word through song.
